The drought of 2006 continues into October entering its 8th month. As of the end of the month,
the US Drought Monitor analazed the drought to remain at D1 or Moderate Drought as it has been
for the entire month. The rainfall was -0.25" below normal for the month but has remained
close to -8.69" for the year. The avg was slightly below normal but 2 90ºF days where recorded
early on in the month and tied a record high in the middle of the month @ 89ºF on the 22nd
preceeding a cold front. About a week and half previous after a cold front passed, a record
low was also tied @ 41.3 on the 15th. Near record cold occurred following a cold front bringing
the coldest air of the season reaching 35.4ºF & 37.3ºF respectively. Frontal passage was frequent
beginning in the middle of the month bring some rain; 1.57" and with the last frontal system,
(old front lifted back N as a warm front then cold front passage) significant rain of 1.62".
That accounted for 99% of the rain. High pressure dominated the beginning of the month and
in between the two major fronts.
