The drought of 2006-07 continues into August entering its 18th month/w August being slighty warmer
and drier than normal. It was +1.1º above normal for the avg. temp and -1.74" deficit for the
month and +3.83" surplus for the year but there is still a -5.15" deficit from last yr. Most of
the monthly rainfall occurred in the first 7 days as the pattern was the same that persisted from the
end of a July with a Trough in the mid-upper levels of the atmopshere along the Eastern Seaboard in
combination with weak stationary fronts. The pattern shifted after 8/7 with an upper level high
established from Florida northward along the Eastern Seaboard. Very warm morning lows occurred
from the 6th-10th with all-time record Hi Low of 78.2ºF set on the 8th. Very high dew points (81ºF+)
also occurred from the 5th-11th with an all-time record set of 83.7ºF on the 7th which was broken
2 days later on the 9th with 83.8ºF. 83ºF+ dew points where recorded for 4 days straight from 8/7-8/11.
Sea-breeze convection occurred several times at the end of the month. US Drought Monitor persisted as
D1 - Moderate Drought through the entire month. The highest temp. occurred on the 9th @ 98.2°F with
it yet to reach 100°F for the summer or yr. The lowest temp. occurred on the 30th @ 69.7. The highest
peak wind was 34 mph in a thunderstorm on the 11th. No Red Flag Conditions occurred but it was dry
in the 2nd half of the month.
